Frequently asked questions
We can test for drug use going back 3, 6, 9, or 12 months, depending on the length of hair provided. As a general guideline, each 1 cm of hair represents approximately one month of drug history
A standard hair follicle drug test typically requires 100 to 120 strands of hair, collected as close to the scalp as possible. When gathered together, the sample should be about the diameter of a pencil lead when twisted.
To perform a standard Hair Drug, EtG, or Steroid test, we require a minimum hair length of 3 cm, which provides approximately 90 days (3 months) of drug use history.
For longer detection periods, the following minimum hair lengths are required: • 6 months – 6 cm • 9 months – 9 cm • 12 months – 12 cm
Dyeing or chemically treating hair (such as bleaching or colouring) does not significantly affect the outcome of a hair follicle drug test.
The test analyses drug metabolites that are embedded within the hair shaft, not just on the surface. While heavy chemical treatments may be noted by the lab, they do not prevent the detection of drug use.
Results are typically available within 8 to 15 business days, depending on the type of test being performed. Some tests may be completed sooner, while others such as those requiring more complex analysis may take closer to the full 15 business days.
